An absolutely excellent book. It is well written, gripping, intense and thoughtful. There are no easy answers in it and no ducking away from the realities of combat medicine in a shooting war or personal issues that need to be dealt with.

Dr. Warren lays it all out with an honesty that is rarely seen anywhere. Everyone who can take the gritty realism of the medical portions should read this book. I wish our world's politicians were mandated to read it. He has done a service to us all not only by being in the line of fire as a medical professional but in faithfully writing about what happened to him there and what impacts it had on his life.

I could not recommend it any higher.
